Sea Caves
The sea caves are approximately 90 minutes from Chorefto beach and are accessible only by boat. The landscape you will encounter is of indescribable beauty and will thrill you with its crystal-clear waters and imposing grandeur.
They are located between the Venetian beach section and the old Metochi of Agios Nikolaos Flamouriou. The sea caves are the ancient “Furnaces,” in whose maritime area, according to Herodotus, most of Xerxes’ fleet was destroyed in 480 BC. Mythologically, it was Poseidon’s lair. The exoticism of the area is said to have contributed to the Nereid Thetis being caught in the nets of Peleus’ love.
The largest of the sea caves is “Despotis’ Cave,” named because the then Metropolitan Gregorios regularly visited it before 1905. Directly above the caves are remnants of the old medieval castle that gave the name Palaiokastro to another area.
The sea caves are admired by thousands of visitors every summer and impress even the most demanding! If you are particularly lucky, you might encounter dolphins or Monachus Monachus seals, as they find refuge there in addition to Alonissos.

BEACHES OF EASTERN PELION:
AGIOI SARANTA
A beach of heavenly beauty in eastern Pelion, ideal for swimming in wonderful turquoise waters and relaxing on fine white pebbles.
At Agioi Saranta, you will find the “Kalogeros,” a tall rock from which the more daring can dive.
AGIOS IOANNIS
Agios Ioannis is one of the most beautiful and cosmopolitan beaches in Pelion. It will impress you with its white pebbles and crystal-clear waters.
DAMOUCHARI
Damouchari is the only natural harbor on the southern side of Pelion. It is a small picturesque settlement consisting of 2 coves connected by a peninsula on which castle ruins stand. The northern cove is now a small harbor with tavernas and houses, while the southern one is Damouchari beach, captivating with its crystal-clear waters and white pebbles, known as ‘krokales’ to visitors.
Damouchari is also known from the movie “Mamma Mia,” scenes of which were filmed on the beach.
FAKISTRA
Fakistra is one of the best beaches in Pelion. It is characterized by its wild and imposing beauty, its turquoise waters, and vegetation that reaches the sea.
MILOPOTAMOS
The most famous and perhaps the most beautiful of the beaches in Pelion. The turquoise waters, the fine white pebbles, and the rock that seems to divide the beach in two create a magical setting that will remain unforgettable.
